Valentine is coming, but Christmas hasn’t gone far…

Valentine as we have grown to meet it is a season meant for lovers. ‘Lovers’ in this context does not apply to my mum and I even though the world knows that after Gods love for mankind comes a mother’s love for her child. Anyways, this claim has no call for atheists. Lovers all over the globe — or at least, a large part of the globe — are gearing up for a season of expression of love. Boys are thinking, girls are waiting, husbands are planning, wives are… p..l..anin.g, and however every couple decide to celebrate their valentine will be seen on Feb 14th.

Now another celebration. The stress that comes from the obligations of buying gifts, planning dates, surprises parties, etc, the financial burden that this celebration will create as some persons seek only to impress others and not to express love are reasons why some persons silently want valentine to be scrapped but for many obvious reasons, they can’t voice it out. Meanwhile, Christmas was barely 50 days ago. Oopps, my bad, not all of us are Christians. Even at that, at least New Year was celebrated 6 weeks ago.

A landing page I designed for a Gift Store during the last Christmas

Christmas, a perfect time to share love? Then what is Valentine? A perfect time to share love remnant I guess. Don’t take that from me please.

Exchange of gifts has from time immemorial been the most common way of expressing love. So generally agreed upon that the act didn’t only get featured on Gary Chapman’s book ‘The Five Love Languages’ as one of love’s languages, but also accepted as one by all race, religion, people, and culture. People ‘unequivocally’ exchange gifts to show love even in some cases that it isn’t logically required. Please help me answer these questions

  1. Why did Mr. John give his neighbor a nice cologne on December 25th?
  2. Why did Mama Amaka share jollof rice for all her house mates the same day?
  3. And lastly, why was it my gilfriend’s call that woke me up asking me for her Christmas gift, yes, still same day, why?

Christmas, Valentine, Ed Kabir, (and the list is endless), not celebration seems complete without the exchange of gifts. From experience, it becomes obvious that humans, like every other things with life, are elated by the idea of receiving, while few, giving. Whichever you fall into, you are only but human and as long as day and night remains, exchange seasons will never fade. While expression of love through giving of gifts is highly recommended as a healthy way of showing people their relative value, it is advised that this be done logically.

Here…

Get a gift for someone, say thank you, get a gift for someone, say I love you, get a gift for someone, say whatever you wish, a gift is worth a thousand words. However, get one within your budget, for the right reason, for the right person. Get a gift to express not impress.

Now because of you, I’ll have to re-design this platform to fit for valentines just so you can get great affordable gifts for your special ones. Thanks for the stress, I am not complaining, just come get a gift..
